Ice Skating

Well, as soon as we got our tax return back in February, we went and signed the kids up for sports. They've been anxiously and PATIENTLY waiting all year to get to do something.  The minute we moved to Illinois, we wanted our kids to do hockey.  The ice rinks are so close and it was so fun watching all these little 4-5 year olds skate around in all their gear.  With our tax return, we finally had a little leeway to not only let the kids each choose a sport, but a sport they REALLY wanted! YAY!!

Bergen chose hockey. He has been begging for 2 years now...
Talia decided she no longer wanted to do hockey and just wanted to ice skate (yay!! so much cheaper)
Tabitha chose gymnastics. She would have done skating but unfortunately you have to be 4.
Brooklyn chose to be the one we get to chase while the other kids are doing their sports. bluh :)

Bergen started off slow but got really good, really fast. By his last class in the "learn to skate hockey" he was cruising and beating all the other kids. Some how he learned to jump and duck, dive and glide in the last 2 classes. It was hilarious watching all these kids who were learning how to skate play sharks and minnows.  In the end, he really stepped up his game and impressed us all.  Today he was supposed to start level 2...this time they learn drills and actually get to skate with their stick.  He was all decked out. Svend sent him out but quickly noticed that he was the only one with a stick... he was in the wrong class. They had switched his class to Sunday.  Frustrating.  We went and got a refund and Svend talked to Bergen. He asked him what he should do...if he should stay in hockey. Bergen said "no, we need to go to church." He cried most of the morning...and any time we talked about hockey/skating today.  He is heart broken. I am heartbroken.  He was so good. Now we are trying to find another rink that we can switch to. Unfortunately they are on all different schedules. We are hoping we have him in something by May 1st. Until then he'll just keep going to open skate and playing tag with Svend and Tally.

Tally has done really good in figure skating. She moved up a level today! We are so proud of her. She loves it. I think she loves to be able to just skate around and not worry about things. She enjoys it so much.  She doesn't enjoy sports where she has everyone yelling at her what to do and where to go (alot like me...).  I'm glad she chose this and I hope we can keep it up. Thankfully there are LOTS of days to choose from in skating lessons, so she still gets to go.  It's so fun watching her doing something she loves.  I should also mention she started taking a drawing class. It was going to cost as much as a sport so we told her if she really wanted it, she could pay for 1/3 of it. She did. Without hesitation.  She loves it.  Again, something she is good at and enjoys just letting her mind wonder :)

Tabitha has been in gymnastics. Her last class is this Wednesday.  She is a FLIRT with her 2 boy coaches and LOVEs to tell them "watch me!"  She is really limber and loves running around and moving her body.  This is definitely something she has needed!  It's wonderful seeing how happy she is.  She has quite the little attitude/tantrum/annoyance on her...so seeing her excel at something and then be happy about it is wonderful!

Brooklyn is getting all her exercise running up and down stadium stairs at the ice rink and running back and forth to the mats (trying to get some gym time) at Tabitha's gymnastics.  The teachers keep telling me to put her in...but I am not paying $100 to chase her around. Nope.  She can wait til she's old enough to go by herself.  She loves to spin and twirl. She is in the "princess" stage and MUST have a skirt on at all times. She then spins on one foot over and over again. She is also super athletic. She jumps as high as she can off the couch and chairs.  She turns 2 next week. I am thinking her 16 month terrible twos were just the beginning for her... she has risen to a whole new level these past few weeks. Refusing to sleep at night, throwing EVERYTHING on the floor that she walks by (REALLY fun in stores or with food!), running out the door as fast as she can if anyone leaves it open-barefoot and coatless even in rain and snow, screaming in her carseat just to scream, pinching and biting... she just needs to learn to talk...then I think we'll be done with the last two. Tabitha went through the same thing. She has also lost complete interest in the toilet...which I am totally fine with! I don't want to potty train right now.  Anyway, we still love her. She laughs when we discipline her. Little stinker. Very resilient.

Anyway, there's our update.  Praying we keep our rent low and get to stay where we are at....

That's such a bummer about Bergen's hockey switching to Sundays. Boo! So glad they're having fun at all their activities though!!
