My Uncle Alan

This is my Uncle Alan. 3 years ago, he told us that he was planning on being recommissioned into the Army. So, now at the good old age of...what is it? 35 or so??? hehe, he's in Iraq serving our country in countless ways. This summer while were were in Texas, Svend, me, the kids, and my dad (the one NOT dressed in the military atire) were able to go to Ft. Hood and see him shortly before he left.
He took us around the base, showed us the museums (which were really great and showed the side of wars alot of people have never wanted to see or are pretty much ignorant about). We even got to see Major Hopewell saluted! That was pretty cool.

So, now he's at Camp Victory somewhere in Iraq and working hard to help our troops! It's true what my dad says, it doesn't matter if you support the war or not, they are OUR TROOPS over there giving their lives and we need to support THEM regardless of political feelings!
On a funny side, here are a few things he's taught me/told me over the years:
  • When stopping in your car before making a turn, DON'T turn your steering wheel! That way, if you get rear-ended, you won't be pushed into oncoming traffic.
  • Sometimes it takes an Uncle to teach you to drive a manual car!
  • Noogies won't make you go bald! Though, I'm wondering if this is why I have thin hair. hmmm....
  • It's okay to say your opinion
  • You're never too old to try things! (maybe he's not 35??) You can be useful when you have the skills to succeed
  • Get an education!
  • Be a Texan no matter where you live! haha.

I don't personally know anyone serving our country, but I agree with your dad...they are OUR TROOPS no matter what. They are still human and still need support whether we like it or not! I wish your uncle safety - he sounds like a great guy!

I'm glad to see a great post about an amazing soldier. My favorite cousin in the whole world was one of the first to be sent into afganistan and iraq. He served in the army doing things we will never know for our country. I am proud of our troops and support them no matter the fight because they are fighting for me and that is all that matters! Send you Uncle lots of love and letters to let him know you are proud and he will do his best to protect us all!
